DCSA hits the 5-year mark leading container shipping digitalisation

BIMCO, DCSA, FIATA, ICC, and Swift (The FIT Alliance) have launched the “Declaration of the electronic Bill of Lading” as the adoption of eBLs can help make international trade more efficient, reliable, sustainable, and secure. The aim of the declaration is to secure commitment from all stakeholders in international trade to collaborate on driving digitalisation, starting with eBLs, within their industries.

This standard is designed to expand the scope of applicability of OVS by providing to BCOs, LSPs, and Platforms with three alternatives to consume schedules from carriers.

The FIT Alliance consists of five founding members: BIMCO, DCSA, FIATA, ICC and SWIFT. The key objective of the Alliance is to raise awareness and encourage greater use of shipping standards and electronic bills of lading (eBLs) across all sectors of the shipping industry.

In May of 2020 the Track & Trace standard was released. This standard comprise a common set of processes, data, and interface standards that can be implemented by carriers, cargo owners and solution providers to enable cross-carrier shipment tracking.

Established standards and timelines for communication of container load volumes and stowage details between VSA (vessel sharing agreements) partners, terminals and ports.

Designed to enable the automatic sharing of vessel schedule data between carriers, terminals, and operational service providers.

On March 14, 2019 the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) approved an agreement among Maersk, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM and ONE on the development and free availability of common IT standards for the entire shipping industry (the DCSA Agreement).

In April of 2019, MSC, Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, Evergreen, Yang Ming, HMM and ZIM founded DCSA to establish IT standards that would enable interoperability of technology solutions across the industry.

In September of 2019, the first industry blueprint was released. This blueprint offers an interactive way to understand the container industry by providing industry-approved processes and data definitions.
